How To Make Your Winter Outfits Pop

Hi everyone! I hope you had a bunch of fun celebrating the holidays with your families, receiving gifts, and eating yummy food (I know I ate a little too much!). But after a pretty long hiatus, I'm back with a post about how to make your winter outfits pop this season. I've noticed that I've been wearing a lot of solid colors recently, so here's some helpful tips to make a drab outfit into something show-stopping.

A Very Festive Saturday

In spirit of the holiday season, my town hosts a Winter Market in the park every year. This year was super fun because I got to go with some of my best friends, unlike last year where I walked around all alone. We had a great time so keep reading for more!

Grand Opening!

Today is a very exciting day even though it consists of me just sitting in bed, eating food, working on the computer, oh, and studying for my Latin test (sigh)... but all that aside, today is the grand opening of my online shop: MINXEA!

Is Your Creativity Being Stifled?

Today I need to get this off my chest (and you do too). I'm sure there's a lot of people out there that feel like their creativity is being stifled by someone or something in their life. So if that sounds like you, keep reading. But first, I want to say that this is my creative space, nobody else's. This is my life, and I can shape my world into what I imagine. You can too.

Phases

Recently, I've been transitioning from one phase of my life to another. This is the only topic I've been dying to write about because it's been on my mind a lot tonight. Why? Because today was my last day as an American Apparel sales associate.

For the past two weekends, I've been out of town. Whether it was going to Northern Michigan for my cousin's wedding, or exploring Milwaukee, I've spent a lot of time away (and in the car).

American Apparel Outfits #1

With all my clothes from American Apparel accumulating, I've come up with some very cute outfits for work.

This outfit is so simple, but I love it. I got the bodysuit during the end of season sale, but you can find it here (not that color though). My skirt is the basic dark wash indigo circle skirt. My shoes are the clear jelly flats, which I wore all the time to work this summer. And of course, you can't forget to add a scrunchie! Mine is the houndstooth one.

I've gotten so many compliments on this one! And I'm obsessed with wearing it! I also crimped my hair that day and I just love how it looks. Again, I'm wearing my jelly flats, and sporting a gold scrunchie around my wrist. My skirt is this plaid circle skirt (it's the first thing I bought when I got the job because I wanted it so badly! Amazing purchase!). And my top is a basic cropped sweater which you can find here.

Now, this is the outfit I've just been dying to show everyone! Remember my "Monochrome + Sam Smith?" post? Well here's the outfit! I got it! The details on the dress are in my previous post, but I bought the shoes that day! They are black jelly heels and they are all I ever wear to work now. I love them so much, they look great with socks too!

This outfit is so cute, but casual too! I'm obsessed with the tie up blouses, especially this one with it's funky flowers and colors! And my Easy Jeans... *sigh* if you have not tried a pair on yet, then I suggest you do. They are the most comfortable jeans ever and I'm not just saying that because I work at AA. If I didn't have an employee discount, I'd still pay full price for them, and that's actually saying a lot, because if you know me, you know I'm pretty cheap.

I'm super into monochrome right now if you haven't noticed. Around my wrist I've got my deadstock vintage watch. It's a digital too, which makes me happy because reading analog clocks is a pain. My top is just the basic white sleeveless crop top. I've had to wash it too many times already because I wear it so often. I just got the skirt last week and I've already worn it 3 times! It's not full length, but it almost is. It has buttons down the front, and giant pockets which is very convenient for holding lipstick. The other day I had a ton of cough drops in them because I was struggling with the sick life. Ugh. At least I'm feeling better now!

So that's it for now! I'll have more outfits to show very very soon. Thanks for reading!

New Shoes (I'm So Excited!)

OK, I am out of my mind excited that these beauties finally came in the mail today. Look at them, are they gorgeous or what?

I've check the mail for the past 7 days, waiting, hoping they'd be sitting there. Today was that day, my friends, that the little silver ASOS package was sitting at my doorstep.

These booties are by London Rebel, bought on ASOS.com. Get this, they were 60% off! So they were only $40! A steal, right? I got an email from ASOS about a week or so ago about the one-day sale and I pulled out my credit card as quick as possible when I found these.

Mine are a US size 9. They are a bit roomie, but if I would've gotten them a size smaller, they'd have probably been a little tight. Plus, I'll end up wearing thick socks with them, so it's all good.

Check out these cute boots here, or shop just shop ASOS shoes in general! They carry quality products and I'm not lying when I say I'm totally obsessed with the brand. Working for them in their marketing department or something along those lines is basically my dream job. No joke.

Here's some more London Rebel booties for you to check out! Click on the pictures for more info!

The Latest Outfit Inspirations

I'm actually not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I'm super obsessed with all black outfits right now. This is bad for two reasons: 1) everything I've been buying lately is black and 2) I can't wear all black to work. Black is my new craze, but I'm also loving simple, clean outfits. I really want to start pulling off the blue jean, white shirt look (anyone catch my Lana Del Rey reference there?).

So now here's a peak into my latest Pinterest pins...

Oh and by the way! I got my hair dyed, pictures will be posted soon!

SYVENDE

This is so great for fall! I love the booties. I actually ordered myself some similar to those in brown the other day. They were 60% off on ASOS so I just couldn't pass them up! I love the midi skirt too, definitely perfect for a day on the chillier side.

When I saw this outfit, I think I almost cried because it's so gorgeous! I'm recently digging the socks and heels look. It's probably because I work at AA and that's all we wear in the winter!

american apparel skirt - I really really want this corduroy skirt D:
This is actually from the American Apparel Pinterest, but hey, I just can't get enough of it! I love the way the camel colored skirt is paired with the lighter top! It's simple, yet different. Not something I would think about, but I love it!
That's it for now, sorry for the lack of posts lately! I've been busy with work and school!
Thanks for reading!

All Natural

The big question: why is "natural" scolded in society? Why is it not acceptable to cry in public? Why is it not okay to go out without a stitch of makeup? Why can't a singer sing without it being auto-tuned and edited? The list goes on and on...

In this picture I have zero amounts of makeup on. The day this was taken, I was crying all day. My friend wanted me to take photos of her so I was like "Ok, I need to get out of the house."

At the end, she ended up taking a few photos of me. I didn't know how I'd look... No makeup, my hair up in a pony tail. But of course, I was wearing my American Apparel easy jeans... so hey, I felt somewhat good about my appearance.

I didn't think much of the pictures. We walked around town a little, had an impromptu meet-up with some friends at the restaurant everyone hangs out at in town. But during the whole thing, I felt a bit insecure. Like I'm sitting there, everyone around, wearing a cute outfit but having two hormone-induced pimples on my cheeks. Did I look bad? Did I look ugly?

Then, when I got home, I saw the pictures. And I realized natural beauty should be embraced. You're not always going to like what you see, but take a look in the mirror every morning before you wash your face, brush your hair, put on makeup, and tell yourself you're beautiful... because it's true: you are.

Don't care so much about what other people think. This life is for you, nobody else.

Be yourself because I guarantee there will be at least 1 or 2 people (if not more!) that really love the real you.

Try it: walk around without makeup and feel amazing. It'll take a while to get there, but it's something that could change your outlook and ultimately your life.

Monochrome + Sam Smith?

While searching the internet up and down for who knows what, I found this photo of some retro, 20th century fashion:

I instantly fell in love with this because:
1) I love vintage looks
2) It's monochrome and that's so in right now, not to mention I just love love love the trend.
3) It reminds me of a shirt/dress/pattern we sell at American Apparel.
4) Sam Smith actually wears the AA shirt with that pattern in his Leave Your Lover music video.

The shirt the girl is wearing and the American Apparel one are pretty similar. From these inspirations, I'm going to create my own spin on it.

First off, this AA spaghetti strap baby doll dress is perfect. Every time I walk past it in the store, I want it. I'll most likely be buying it very soon, unless something else new catches my eye.

Personally, if I do end up purchasing this with my latest paycheck, then I'll also end up buying some AA accessories to pair with it. Since it'll be fall soon, I'd pair it with this cardigan and some tights. I also love booties, so hopefully (crossing my fingers) the location I work at will be getting the city boot in soon.

But here's some other accessories and inspiration you might like!

So Cher Horowitz (OOTD)

As some of you might know, I'm in love with Cher Horowitz style in the movie "Clueless". She rocks a plaid skirt almost all the time, especially when she wears this iconic outfit:

So the other day for work, I channeled my inner Cher. This was the result:

Sad Goodbyes & New Beginnings

So, I'm the sentimental type. And this one is for all those beautiful class of 2014 members that are leaving me to rot in high school for another year... thanks guys... (don't worry, just a joke). What I'm really writing this post for is to say thank you to the people a year older for being there for me. We've had our laughs, but also our hard moments. This is one of those hard moments, one of those exciting moments where everything is going to change, but it'll be amazing for you all.

To every single now-Freshman in college that has impacted my life: have an unforgettable journey these next four years... I know you will. You've made me laugh, sing, and try to new things. I am so incredibly grateful for those memories. I can't wait to see all that you guys accomplish and I only wish that I could be standing in the shoes next to you.

The past few days, everyone has been trickling away to different schools in different places and it's really starting to dawn on me. Now, the class of 2015 is next. Now, I'm a Senior... I'm where you all were beginning just a year ago. Before I know it, I'll be a college kid too. It's such a scary thought... I can't fully wrap my head around how everything is changing every day, all the time.

As a Junior I looked up to my Senior friends... and now the Juniors will be looking up to me. So with that being said, I hope I shine like I saw my friends shine. When I get that first acceptance letter, I'll know I made it. One step closer to greatness. One step closer to my future.

And that's what the Seniors taught me. They gave me hope that one day I would be someone. I'll never forget two things I was told by two Seniors.

1) "You're going to look up one night and see yourself among the stars."

2) "You're not going to just be the typical person that has a 9 to 5."

But it was all the hugs, the words of wisdom, the helping hands that I was granted with that made the class of 2014 special. I met so many truly special people and I would re-live Junior year again just to spend time with them.
There's so many specific people to mention, but even though it's only been a few short months of spending time with Martissa, I know that we will always keep in touch. I'll miss her smile in the hallway and the genuine, real conversations we had. I'll miss my ring buddy Andrea who I saw every morning in homeroom. I'll also miss those Seniors who I went on Kairos (a retreat) with (you guys know who you are). You made my year worth while, and even though we only spent a short weekend together, you all probably know me better than most people. And then to the Seniors who have came into my life, and then out. Even though we don't talk anymore, you still matter to me because you changed me for the better. And then I'll miss all my amazing co-workers who are going away, especially De'Kael. I'll be visiting you in Chicago; don't worry!

So that's it. I love you all. Thank you for making me feel like I belonged somewhere.

P.S. Don't forget me! Come back and visit!

Taking Pictures Downtown!

Yesterday I had the best time in Downtown Detroit with Martissa! We found the cutest community garden (which also had the best light we could find for photos). We also found some pretty cool graffiti, and got to take a nice walk by the riverfront!

After we went to Zumba! If you've never tried it, I totally suggest going to a class. It's fun, but it's also an amazing workout. I felt great (a little sweaty) but very energized and happy after.

Oh and UPDATE: Yesterday was #day7 of #100happydays. Check it out on Twitter.

Now for the pictures.

Pink, Frilly, Girly

I haven't been too fashionable lately and I feel bad about this. One reason I feel bad is because I've been lacking creativity with these blog post and questioning the direction my blog is going. The second being I have literally felt bad, as in, felt sick over the fact that I haven't put effort into my appearance for the last 2-3 days. I'm one of those people that feels better with a little bit of retail therapy or even just playing some big girl dress up. For some reason I just haven't had the motivation, but I will very soon, and then I'll have some better posts for you, don't worry.

But on my lazy days I've spent a ton of time on Pinterest. I decided to look through my style board. I came across so many girly, pink looks that I just love. Now all I want to do is go shopping for this stuff!

I love this. So much. The see-through top with a fun bandeau bra really makes this outfit pop.

Style Tips for Wearing a Tulle Skirt

You have no idea how badly I want a tulle skirt. This outfit is the definition of ballerina, girly, frilly style. It's perfection.

I think this outfit is girly, but punk at the same time. If you ask me, this outfit is killer.

Which one is your favorite girly look?
